How can I recover corrupted JPG files from my mom’s wedding photos?

I'm in a bit of a bind here. At my mom's wedding last week, we hired a photographer and let the guests enjoy the day without worry. However, when we checked the photos, I discovered that about half of them are corrupted JPG files. The photographer has tried to recover them but was unsuccessful, and I've asked for the files in hopes that I can find a way to salvage them. Does anyone have any tips or steps I can follow to recover these photos? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You might want to look into using a professional card recovery service. They deal with these types of issues all the time. Pro cameras often have dual card slots to safeguard against data loss, which is something to consider for the future. Just keep in mind that memory cards don’t have built-in diagnostics, so it's tricky to know when they might fail.

I've dealt with corrupted JPGs before, and it can be tricky. It sounds like the SD card might be acting up, which isn't uncommon. If you're comfortable, you could upload one of the corrupt files, and I'd be happy to take a look for you. Just a heads up though—sometimes, even if you can recover parts of the image, the quality may not be good enough for wedding photos. But you never know!

I have some recovery software I could use on a single image too. Who knows? We might get lucky and recover something! Plus, I totally understand the importance of those memories.

I can't upload the files here unfortunately; the site says "unable to read the provided image," and linking from Google Drive isn’t allowed. I'm trying to find a solution since not many photos were taken by other guests. If we can't retrieve them, we'll have to make do with what we have.

Honestly, recovering corrupted files can be a gamble. Be careful with companies that promise a lot, as some might just take your money without delivering. If the files are severely damaged, there may not be much you can do. Just be prepared for that possibility.

I'm not really tech-savvy, so I'm just hoping there's a way. The files have size and format information, but when I try to open them, it says the format isn’t supported and there's no visible image.

It's really unfortunate that this happened. A good photographer usually spreads files across multiple cards to avoid this exact scenario. It might be a lost cause if the corruption is severe since JPGs are compressed. Uncompressed formats like bitmaps could be easier to recover if they got corrupted, but JPG? That’s a tough break.
