I've been noticing that whenever I ask ChatGPT a question, it tends to shower me with compliments about how insightful my questions are and how I'm building my knowledge. It's been pretty overwhelming, and I feel like I'm chatting with a very enthusiastic salesperson rather than getting straightforward answers. Most of my inquiries are technical or factual, covering topics like history, architecture, and physical chemistry. I'm just really looking for concise information, not a conversation or friendship with the AI. How can I tone down that overly friendly chat and just get the facts?

This seems to be a common issue. OpenAI mentioned a few hours ago that they were working on toning it down, but many users, including myself, haven’t noticed any changes yet. You could search through some threads on the ChatGPT sub for updates.
You might want to try turning off the custom instructions feature. That could help reduce all the extra flattery.

Honestly, I find the flattery somewhat amusing, but I get how it could be frustrating if you're just trying to get information!
