I'm installing my motherboard in a new case, but one of the motherboard screws is stuck in its standoff. The screw turns freely, yet the standoff itself won't come loose, so I can't install the board properly. I've already spent about $2,000 on upgrades and really can't afford to replace the motherboard. What's the safest way to remove it?

The screw may be cross-threaded, causing the standoff to spin along with it. If you can access the sides of the standoff, grip it firmly with needle-nose pliers while turning the screw counterclockwise. If there’s a small gap, you can also gently wedge a thin tool against the standoff to keep it from rotating. Be careful not to scrape or flex the motherboard.
