How Can I Remove AVG Antivirus That Was Installed With a CD-Burning Program?

I tried installing CDBurnerXP because Windows Media Player was acting up, but the CD-burning software never appeared after installation. Instead, several AVG antivirus shortcuts or apps showed up on my desktop. Nothing seems to be malfunctioning, but I would like to remove the unwanted software. A normal uninstall did not work because Windows said some of the files were open elsewhere. What is the safest way to get rid of it, and how can I avoid installing bundled software in the future?

For free Windows utilities, a curated installer service such as Ninite can sometimes provide cleaner installations by avoiding common bundled extras. Regardless of the download source, still review the installer and verify that you are getting the actual program you intended to install. Also be cautious with unrelated surveys or requests for personal household information; declining those was the right choice.

The AVG installation was probably offered as an optional extra during the CDBurnerXP setup. These offers often include a checkbox or a Decline button, although it can be easy to miss. In the future, download software from its official source and carefully review every setup screen instead of accepting the default installation.
