Hey everyone! I'm in a bit of a bind. I recently bought a MacBook Air, and in my haste, I set up my fingerprint for login but completely forgot my password. I've tried some online solutions, but they keep asking for a recovery key that I don't have. Is there any way I can reset my password by myself, or should I just take it somewhere for help? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a bunch! 🙂

Hey all, I went ahead and erased my Mac and reinstalled macOS! I’ll keep you posted on whether that worked! 💖💖💖
If all else fails, just take your Mac to an Apple Store with your receipt. The staff at the Genius Bar can help you sort it out!
Just a heads up, the recovery key for your Mac is different from your Apple account recovery key. You should have received this key when you enabled FileVault. If you don’t have it, your only option might be to erase your Mac. You can choose 'Erase All Content and Settings' from the menu when prompted.
I can’t find the option to erase my Mac anywhere! Where should I look?
To reset your password, you can check Apple’s official guide on the steps to take. If you created a recovery key for your Apple account but didn’t jot it down, you might face some major headaches. It’s best to make sure you follow the instructions closely this time! Good luck!
Oh no! I do have a recovery key from my iPhone, but it didn’t let me type the full thing on my MacBook.

Sadly, there aren’t any Apple Stores in New Zealand, so that option won't work for me.
