I'm moving my first custom-built PC into a different case, but the 24-pin power connector is extremely difficult to unplug from the motherboard. I've pressed the locking clip and made a little progress, but it still feels stuck. I've tried pulling and gently wiggling it for hours, and I'm worried that using more force could damage or crack the motherboard. How much force is normal, and is there a safer technique for removing it?

A flathead screwdriver can sometimes help, but prying against the motherboard is risky and could damage the socket or board. I’d only consider it as a last resort, using very slight pressure while keeping the latch released.
Start gently and gradually increase the force instead of making one sudden pull. Support the motherboard near the connector if you can, and avoid twisting the plug sideways. The important part is confirming that the latch is completely disengaged first.
Make sure the locking tab is fully pressed toward the wires so it clears the catch on the motherboard socket. Hold the connector by its plastic housing—not the wires—then pull it straight out while gently rocking it along the long axis. These connectors can take surprisingly more force than expected, but stop immediately if you hear cracking or see the board flexing.
Once the clip is released, use a firm squeeze, a small wiggle, and a straight pull. Keep the clip pressed the entire time. It’s normal for a 24-pin connector to be very tight, especially if it has been installed for a long time.
