How can I safely straighten bent CPU socket pins?

I bent several pins while installing a new CPU fan, and trying to straighten them with a small flathead screwdriver only pushed nearby pins out of alignment. I can't afford to replace the motherboard, and a credit card seems too thick to fit between the pins. What tools and method should I use to repair them without causing more damage?

Don’t bend the other pins to match. First take a close-up photo so you can compare the damaged area with an undamaged section, and avoid turning the computer on until every pin is aligned. If several pins are badly bent, a local computer repair shop may be safer and cheaper than replacing the motherboard.
