How Can I Set My Galaxy S8 Hotspot to 5 GHz Instead of 2.4 GHz?

Hey everyone! I'm currently using my old Galaxy S8 as a Wi-Fi hotspot for my PC, but it's only connecting at 2.4 GHz, which has been a bit slow and congested. I'm looking to boost my connection by switching to 5 GHz for better speed and less interference. Does anyone know if I can force the hotspot to run on 5 GHz? If yes, could you guide me on where to find that setting in the menus? Thanks a lot!

I came across some advice online that suggested using certain settings might help. Those options could be hidden, so it's worth exploring all areas in the menu!

GratefulGamer: Thanks for your help! I dug into the settings, but the bandwidth function still doesnโ€™t show up for me.

From what I know, it might actually be a hardware limitation. The S8 has to be able to support broadcasting on that band to begin with, so check if your device can handle 5 GHz.

You might not be able to force it to 5 GHz since the 2.4 GHz band is usually the default setting. However, there are ways to check for options in your settings that might allow a change.

SkepticalSam: Thanks for the input! But isn't there any way to bypass that default setting, like rooting the phone?

If you're using the latest One UI, head to Settings > Connections > Hotspot and Tethering. Turn on the hotspot, but make sure to turn off Wi-Fi first. Then tap on the hotspot toggle areaโ€”not the toggle itselfโ€”and look for the band option to switch it to "5 GHz preferred." That should help!

LostInSettings: I tried that method, but the option for the bandwidth seems to be missing! It's like it just vanished into thin air!
