I installed Arch with KDE Plasma mainly because I wanted to create a polished-looking desktop, but I'm feeling stuck. I've followed several tutorials and read various guides without making much progress. I'm open to almost any style—monochrome sounds appealing, but the main goal is simply to make the desktop look cohesive and attractive. What would be a good beginner-friendly way to get started with KDE customization?

You don’t need to switch distributions or use a tiling window manager to customize your desktop. The operating system underneath has very little to do with the visual result. Window-manager setups often require configuring separate panels, launchers, notification systems, and scripts, so staying with KDE will probably be less frustrating while you learn. Also, customization is optional—make it serve your workflow rather than feeling pressured to impress anyone.
Try recreating one specific setup that you like, but treat it as a learning exercise rather than installing everything blindly. Identify its wallpaper, colors, icons, fonts, panel layout, and window decorations one at a time. That makes it much easier to understand what each setting does and to undo changes when something looks wrong.
Start small instead of trying to copy an entire setup at once. Pick a wallpaper you like, then choose a matching global theme, color scheme, icon set, and font from KDE’s appearance settings. KDE also lets you browse and install themes directly through its settings. Once the basic look is consistent, you can experiment with panel placement, transparency, widgets, and window decorations.
KDE Plasma is a good place to begin because most customization is integrated into the desktop. Try changing the wallpaper, making the panel floating or slightly transparent, adjusting its height, and adding only a few useful widgets. A dock can be added later if you prefer that style. It’s better to build a simple setup you enjoy than install dozens of unrelated themes and tools.
