How can I stay motivated to learn programming despite fears about AI?

I'm learning programming, but every new story about AI replacing jobs makes the future feel more uncertain. Sometimes it hurts my motivation, even though I genuinely want to become a programmer. Money isn't my only reason, but I still need a career that can help pay the bills. How can I manage this fear and keep moving forward?

The exact tools and languages may change, so don’t tie your entire identity to one programming language. Build durable skills: problem-solving, data structures, debugging, system design, communication, and learning unfamiliar tools. Becoming adaptable is probably safer than trying to predict which technology will still be popular years from now.

A lot of jobs involve messy, human situations: unclear requirements, changing priorities, awkward communication, and understanding what someone actually needs. AI can be useful with well-defined tasks, but real projects are rarely that neat. Try focusing on learning how to understand problems, make decisions, and work with people—not just memorizing syntax.

AI is a tool, not a replacement for expertise. A calculator didn’t make mathematical thinking useless, and a compiler didn’t eliminate the need for developers. Someone who understands programming can use AI to build, test, debug, and improve things far more effectively than someone who only knows how to ask for generated code.

News tends to highlight dramatic possibilities rather than ordinary tasks AI still handles poorly.
