My Windows 11 laptop keeps installing updates automatically, sometimes at inconvenient times. The update process drains the battery quickly and has caused important work to close unexpectedly. How can I schedule or temporarily pause updates so they happen when I'm not working?

Try installing updates manually after finishing important work instead of waiting until Windows forces a restart. Before starting, save your files and close programs, then leave the laptop plugged in while the update completes.
Windows updates are difficult to disable permanently, but you can control when they restart. Schedule updates for overnight or another time when you won’t be using the computer. Keeping the charger connected also prevents the update from draining the battery as quickly.
Open Settings, go to Windows Update, then Advanced options. Turn off “Get me up to date” if it’s enabled, and set your Active hours so Windows knows when you normally use the laptop. You can also return to the main Windows Update page and choose Pause updates until a convenient date. Save your work before updating, and let the laptop update while plugged in.

Thanks, I’ll set the active hours and pause updates when I need uninterrupted work.
