How Can I Successfully Transition from Windows to Linux?

I'm considering a complete switch from Windows to Linux, but I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed. I've got a ton of applications and games installed on my Windows system that I'm not sure how to replace or migrate. I've thought about Linux for a while and even tried Arch in a virtual machine, but now I'm ready to go all out and leave Windows behind. Any advice on how to do this smoothly?

Honestly, if youโ€™re still heavily relying on Windows apps, it might be worth reconsidering the switch. Linux has come a long way, but not every game or application you might need will run flawlessly. Take some time to research what you really need before diving completely into Linux.

If you're really serious about a full switch, consider getting a second-hand laptop and installing Arch on that. This way, you wonโ€™t risk messing up your Windows setup while you figure out the Linux ecosystem. Alternatively, if you have a desktop, you could just add a new SSD and install Arch on that. It gives you a chance to test things out without giving up Windows right away.

First off, check out ProtonDB for gaming compatibility; you'll find a lot of info there about which games run well on Linux. If you have specific apps in mind, see if they have Linux versions or alternatives that can replace them. It might take some searching, but there are usually good substitutes out there!

Using a live ISO is a good idea to explore Linux without any commitments! You'll be able to test out the interface and see if everything works for your needs before making the final move. Just boot from the ISO and see how it fits your workflow.
