How can I troubleshoot a gaming PC where everything keeps failing or becoming corrupted?

My gaming PC has started acting like nearly everything is corrupted. I've tried several fixes, but each one fails, including attempts to wipe or reset the entire computer. I'm not sure whether the problem is Windows, the RAM, or the SSD. I also have an external drive for extra storage. What should I check next, and what equipment would I need to reinstall Windows properly?

The first step would be a genuinely clean Windows installation rather than relying only on the built-in reset option. Use another working computer to download Microsoftโ€™s Windows Media Creation Tool and create a bootable USB flash drive, then start the affected PC from that USB and delete the existing Windows partitions before reinstalling. Back up anything important first, since this erases the drive. Also, RAM being โ€œfullโ€ usually isnโ€™t the issueโ€”memory usage clears when the computer restarts. If the installation still fails, test the RAM and SSD, because faulty hardware can cause corrupted files and repeated install errors.

MellowOrbit42: I tried wiping the computer, but the reset fails every time. I may have been misunderstanding the RAM issue, since I thought it could simply be full. Iโ€™m not convinced the SSD is failing, but Iโ€™ll test it if a clean installation doesnโ€™t work.

Yes, youโ€™ll normally need a USB flash drive, preferably at least 8 GB, plus access to another working PC. Create the installation media on the USB, plug it into the gaming PC, and choose the USB as the boot device from the startup menu. If the installer cannot format the drive or keeps reporting corrupted files, try a different USB port and installation drive, then run a memory test and check the SSDโ€™s health. An external storage drive only provides additional space; it wonโ€™t repair a damaged Windows installation.

MellowOrbit42: I may be able to use another computer. Iโ€™ll get a USB flash drive and try making Windows installation media that way.
