I'm planning to record videos for YouTube with my phone, but I'd like to use my Blue Yeti for better audio. Since the microphone connects through USB and doesn't record audio by itself, what's the easiest way to connect it to the phone? Another simple option is to record the video on your phone and record the audio separately on a computer or another compatible device. Start both recordings at the same time, make a clap or other sharp sound, and line up the audio and video during editing. That’s why a clapboard is useful.
You can’t record audio inside the microphone itself—the mic only captures sound and sends it to a recording device. If you want the phone to use the Yeti directly, connect it with a compatible USB data adapter and select the external microphone in your camera or recording app. Testing the setup first is important because not every phone or app supports every USB microphone.
Most Blue Yeti models use USB, so you’ll need an appropriate USB adapter for your phone—such as a USB-C OTG adapter or a Lightning-to-USB adapter, depending on the phone. Check that the adapter supports data, not just charging. Some phones may also need extra power because the Yeti draws more power than the phone can provide.
