I'm moving my components into an MSI MAG Forge 320R Airflow case. I'm used to separate front-panel leads for the power switch, reset switch, power LED, and drive LED, but this case appears to use a single combined front-panel connector. My Gigabyte B650 Aorus Elite AX motherboard has the usual individual front-panel header pins, so the connector doesn't seem to line up. Do I need an adapter, or is there a specific orientation and section of the header where this connector should be installed?

That case connector is likely a standardized combined F_PANEL plug, not a USB connector. The B650 Aorus Elite AX uses the standard front-panel header, so the plug should go onto the portion of the header corresponding to the power switch, reset switch, and LED pins. Check both manuals carefully and match the labels rather than forcing the connector. If the keyed plug genuinely cannot fit, use a front-panel adapter or break out the individual wires—don’t cut the motherboard header or connector blindly.
If the connector is physically incompatible despite matching the diagrams, an inexpensive F_PANEL adapter is the safest solution. Another option is carefully separating the individual conductors from the combined housing and attaching them to the motherboard pins one at a time, but only if the wires are clearly labeled. Don’t guess based solely on the connector shape, since plugging a USB header onto the wrong pins could damage hardware.
The motherboard’s front-panel header follows the common Intel-style layout. On many boards, the combined case plug connects to the first section of that header, with one unused or blocked position providing the key. Compare the case’s labels and the motherboard’s F_PANEL diagram; the power-switch pins are the important ones, and the switch itself has no polarity. LEDs do have polarity, so reverse those wires if they don’t light.
The case manual’s diagram doesn’t seem to match the connector I actually received, which is why I wasn’t sure whether it was safe to plug in.
