I'm trying to install a Thermalright air cooler on my new CPU, and I've removed the old plastic mounts to fit the Thermalright AM4 brackets. The problem I'm facing is that the standoffs don't have anything to hold them in place on my motherboard because the screw holes are completely flat. Has anyone dealt with this before? What part do I need to secure the bracket, or is there a workaround? I can't upload a picture to clarify further, unfortunately.

You might want to try lining up the standoff with the CPU bracket, then push the screw through both to hold them together while you align and screw it into the motherboard. It can be a bit tricky for each one, but it should be manageable once you get the first one in place.
I have the alignment down, but the screw won't catch on the board because the holes are too big and lack the lip for the spacers to grab onto.
