My internet connection has been unreliable, and the modem and router are currently set up in a back bedroom. I'd like to move both devices to the living room, but I'm not sure what cables, outlets, or setup steps are required. Can I simply unplug everything and reconnect it in the new room, or do I need to change any settings?

Usually it’s a straightforward move. Disconnect the modem’s incoming cable—such as coax or fiber—and its Ethernet and power cables, then reconnect everything in the same order in the living room. The new room needs an active service outlet, and you’ll generally connect the modem’s Ethernet port to the router’s WAN/Internet port. Turn on the modem first, wait for it to come fully online, and then power up the router. Your existing settings should normally remain intact, but exporting or saving a backup of the router configuration beforehand is a good precaution.
So it isn’t just a matter of moving the two power plugs? I also need to connect the incoming internet cable to the modem and the Ethernet cable from the modem to the router.
