How do I reinstall Windows 11 over CachyOS?

I've only installed Linux once before, on a Mint system, and my husband installed CachyOS on another gaming laptop. It hasn't worked out for me, so I'd like to switch that laptop back to Windows 11 for a while. I understand the basic idea of creating installation media and booting from it, but I'm unsure about the finer details, including preparing the USB, choosing the correct drive, and handling activation.

If you prefer using another computer, Rufus can write the Microsoft ISO to a USB drive. Make sure you download the ISO directly from Microsoft and verify that you are selecting the correct internal drive during installation. A clean install normally removes the existing operating system and all files on that disk, so check your backups before proceeding.

Download the Windows 11 ISO from Microsoftโs official software-download page. From Linux, use a tool such as Ventoy or WoeUSB to create the bootable USB; the flash drive should have at least 8 GB of space. Back up anything important first, since deleting the existing Linux partitions during setup will erase the drive. Restart the laptop, open its one-time boot menuโoften a key such as F12, F11, Esc, or a function keyโand select the USB. In Windows Setup, choose a custom installation, remove the old Linux partitions on the target drive, and install Windows into the resulting unallocated space.

If the laptop originally came with Windows 10 or 11, its activation is often tied to the hardware, so you can usually choose โI donโt have a product keyโ during setup and activation will happen automatically once you connect to the internet. Secure Boot generally does not need to be disabled for a normal Windows 11 installation; leave it enabled unless the installer specifically reports a compatibility problem. Also check the manufacturerโs support page afterward for chipset, graphics, WiโFi, and other drivers.
