I'm looking to update the BIOS on my HPE Proliant ML350, which currently shows BIOS Version HPE U41 from 2/14/2018 in msinfo. I'd prefer to do this from inside Windows Server, so I went to the HPE website and entered the serial number. I found two options: one for iLO firmware and another for Server Platform Services (SPS) Firmware for HPE Gen10. I think I should be using the second option because it allows me to download a zip file, which I can extract and run. After running the update and rebooting, the firmware version still appears the same in msinfo. What am I doing wrong?

It looks like neither of those options is actually for updating the BIOS. HPE usually refers to the BIOS as the System ROM. Make sure to check the specific installer for the BIOS update. You can find the installer for iLO at their support page and for the Windows version as well. They will have dedicated files for the BIOS update instead of those you found.

For the iLO installer, log in to iLO, go to the Firmware page, and upload the signed flash file there. After installation, just reboot your server normally. If you're on bare metal with Windows, using the Windows installer won't save much time, but for unsupported OSs, you can update the BIOS without needing to boot into the OS.
