I'm replacing a Lenovo Yoga 9i Gen 7 that uses a 12th-generation Intel Core i7-1260P, Iris Xe 80EU integrated graphics, and 16 GB of RAM. I dislike the laptop's performance and want my next machine to have at least 32 GB of memory. However, the laptops that fit my needs and budget still mostly use Intel processors, and their naming is confusing. The models I'm considering are the ASUS Zenbook Duo with a Core Ultra 9 386H, ASUS Zenbook 14 (2025) with a Core Ultra 9 285H, Galaxy Book6 Pro with a Core Ultra 7 356H, and Galaxy Book6 Ultra with a Core Ultra X7 358H. How do these processors compare with one another and with my current i7-1260P? How do they compare with Apple's M5 Pro and M5 Max? I'm especially interested in practical performance, integrated graphics, compatibility, battery life, and how to choose between them without relying on benchmark numbers I don't know how to interpret. I would prefer a Windows laptop because Macs lack several features I need.

Apple’s M5 Pro and Max are built on a different architecture and run a different operating system, so raw specifications such as core counts or memory bandwidth don’t translate directly. Apple’s chips are often very strong in performance per watt, sustained workloads, and integrated graphics, but compatibility is the bigger question. Windows-only software, certain peripherals, gaming support, upgrade options, and specific hardware features may make an Intel laptop the better choice even if a Mac wins some benchmarks.
Intel’s naming is confusing because the model number does not tell the whole story. Compare the actual CPU and GPU results for each laptop rather than assuming that every Core Ultra 9 is automatically faster than every Core Ultra 7. The newer models should generally be a substantial improvement over the i7-1260P, but the exact advantage depends on sustained power limits and cooling. A laptop with 32 GB of RAM and better thermals may feel faster than a thinner model using a nominally higher-tier chip.
Benchmarks are still the most useful way to compare these chips, but it helps to separate the categories: single-core performance affects everyday responsiveness, multi-core performance matters for sustained workloads, and graphics benchmarks show how capable the integrated GPU is. Also check laptop-specific reviews, because cooling, power limits, and battery capacity can make two laptops with similar processors perform very differently. The processor name alone doesn’t guarantee a particular experience.
The Core Ultra X7 358H is worth examining if integrated graphics matter, since its built-in GPU may be notably stronger than the graphics in the other Intel options. Still, don’t assume integrated graphics will replace a dedicated NVIDIA GPU for demanding games, 3D work, or GPU-accelerated applications. Look for reviews showing actual gaming or application performance, and check whether the laptop has a dedicated GPU if that is important to you.
So the integrated Intel graphics can be good enough for everyday work and lighter creative or gaming tasks, but a laptop with a dedicated NVIDIA GPU remains the safer choice for demanding graphics workloads.

That’s why I’m leaning toward Windows. The Macs may be powerful, but they don’t provide several features and software options I need.
