How should I build my first gaming PC with a $1,500 budget?

I recently started a new job and want to build my first gaming PC. My budget is around $1,500, though I could spend a little more if there's a good reason. I'll mainly play Fortnite, Overwatch, story-driven games, FromSoftware titles, and Rainbow Six Siege. I'm in the United States and live near a Micro Center. I don't need extreme performance, but I want a solid system that should last for several years. Should the budget include peripherals such as a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and possibly speakers or headphones? I currently don't have a monitor or keyboard, and I'd rather prioritize a good monitor than buy the cheapest option. I'd also appreciate case recommendations, ideally something with an interesting design, lighting, or other visual features.

Since you’re near Micro Center, compare their prebuilt systems with the cost of building yourself. Prebuilts have become more competitive, and a good sale could leave room in the budget for a better monitor, keyboard, and mouse. For a custom build, choose the monitor and target resolution first, then balance the graphics card and processor around it. Cases with tempered glass and built-in lighting can look great, but make sure the case has good airflow and enough space for your components rather than choosing only by appearance.

Peripherals usually means the monitor, keyboard, mouse, and sometimes headphones or speakers. It’s worth deciding whether those need to fit inside the $1,500 before choosing parts, since a quality monitor can take a noticeable portion of the budget. Micro Center can also be useful for refurbished or clearance components and peripherals, so check those deals in addition to their CPU-and-motherboard bundles.

I’m willing to go a little over budget if it’s justified, but I’d prefer to stay close to $1,500. I’m not looking for anything extreme—just a reliable gaming PC that should hold up for a good while.
