How should I handle Samsung Internet’s automatic dark-mode color changes?

I'm relatively new to web development and recently discovered that Samsung Internet can mathematically alter a site's colors when the user has dark mode enabled. It's changing brand colors and, in some cases, making parts of the interface less accessible. The usual light-mode hint doesn't seem to prevent it. How do experienced developers handle this? Is there a reliable way to preserve the intended colors, or should I simply accept the browser's behavior rather than asking users to switch browsers?

Brand consistency matters, but users also control brightness, display profiles, accessibility filters, and color-vision settings. Build a strong default design with good contrast, test the important screens on affected devices, and tolerate some differences instead of trying to force every visitor into a particular browser or rendering mode.

There may be no dependable way to detect or disable this behavior because the browser can pretend it is using a light theme and apply its changes afterward. That means page scripts and theme detection may not reveal what is happening. Treat it as a user-agent rendering decision rather than something JavaScript can reliably override.

Set the color-scheme hint in the document head and give important elements explicit foreground and background colors instead of relying on inherited or browser-default colors. Forced-dark-mode algorithms are more likely to preserve clearly declared color pairs. Also avoid putting text over complicated gradients or images, and make the original color combinations highly contrasting so they remain readable if adjusted.

You ultimately don’t control the client’s rendering choices. You can detect the browser and show a compatibility message, but asking people to use another browser usually creates a worse experience than accepting a small amount of visual variation.
