I have a 30-minute online interview with the VP of Engineering tomorrow. It comes after the technical interview stages, and the company is publicly traded. The role is Senior DevOps, but I do not have much information about what this conversation will cover. What should I focus on while preparing, and are there any tips for making a strong impression?

For a senior role, be ready to explain the reasoning behind your technical decisions, not just the tools you used. Have a few concise examples prepared using a situation, action, and result structure. Think about topics like introducing systems from scratch, Kubernetes fundamentals, autoscaling, networking, reliability, and improving delivery efficiency. Also connect your decisions to business or team outcomes—why the approach helped people, reduced risk, or improved the product.
This is probably going to focus heavily on team fit, communication, judgment, and how you work with other parts of the business. Keep your answers focused instead of wandering into unnecessary technical details. For past projects, explain what you personally owned, not only what the team accomplished. If you do not know something, be honest and explain how you would investigate or solve it.
Spend some time researching the company's products, recent announcements, and business direction. If you can try the product, do that before the interview so you can discuss it naturally. Prepare thoughtful questions too, such as where the infrastructure team is heading, what challenges the next projects will bring, and how they see your experience contributing. The goal is to show that you can make independent decisions while still working well with the wider organization.
Good point about the questions. Asking where my skills could be most useful or where they think additional development would help seems much stronger than only asking about benefits or day-to-day tasks.
