How should I update the drivers on my HP PC?

I'm fairly comfortable using PCs, but I'm not sure how to update the drivers on my HP computer. The hardware appears to be somewhat outdated, and Intel's automatic updater doesn't open or seem to do anything. The Intel driver page is also difficult to navigate, so I'd appreciate guidance on the safest way to update the graphics and other device drivers. I'm also experiencing low FPS in some games, although I realize this computer may not be designed for gaming.

You can also check Windows Update under Settings โ†’ Windows Update โ†’ Advanced options โ†’ Optional updates. Those drivers are generally conservative and tested for compatibility. Install the ones that clearly match your hardware, but you donโ€™t need to install every optional item blindly or expect them to dramatically improve gaming performance.

MellowPine47: There are several optional driver updates listed. I was wondering whether to install all of them, but I mainly hoped they might improve the low FPS Iโ€™m getting in a few games.

Updating drivers may fix compatibility problems, but it probably wonโ€™t turn an office-oriented HP PC with integrated graphics into a gaming machine. Lower the gameโ€™s resolution and graphics settings, close background programs, and check whether the system is using the correct power mode. If the hardware is below the gameโ€™s requirements, a driver update alone wonโ€™t make a large difference.

Since this is an HP system with integrated Intel graphics, start with HPโ€™s support page for the exact model or use HP Support Assistant. Laptop and prebuilt manufacturers often provide customized drivers, and the graphics driver is usually bundled with the processor or chipset updates. Avoid downloading random drivers just because they appear newer on Intelโ€™s site.

MellowPine47: It is an HP computer, and the graphics are integrated rather than a separate graphics card. Iโ€™ll look for the exact model on HPโ€™s support site and try their update utility.
