I've been struggling for a while with centering a specific part of my text in Microsoft Word. Whenever I select the text I want to center and hit the center button or use Ctrl + E, it centers the entire text instead. Can someone help me figure out what I'm doing wrong?

The issue you're facing is likely due to how paragraphs work in Word. Centering only works for the selected text if it stands alone in its own paragraph. Make sure there’s a complete paragraph mark (which you get by pressing return) before and after the text you want to center. If you use Shift + Return, it only creates a line break within the same paragraph, so Word doesn’t apply the center formatting just to that text.

Wow, this makes total sense! I’ve always struggled with that, too, so thanks for breaking it down!
