How to Improve My Game Prototype That Feels Underwhelming?

I've been working on my game for three weeks, and I've just wrapped up the core mechanics. However, I'm not really feeling impressed with what I've created so far. I haven't added animation or music yet, but I've learned through research that if the prototype isn't engaging, all the additional elements might be pointless. I want my game to be fun and replayable, but I feel it's lacking something. I've shared a video showing the game's mechanics and would love any advice or tips you might have!

That's the point of a prototype! If it doesn't feel right, it might just mean you're heading in the wrong direction. Take a step back and consider other ways to approach this, or it might be worth scrapping altogether if it’s not resonating with you.

Game development is tough, especially when it comes to making it fun and visually appealing. It sounds like you've got the basics, but now it’s all about iteration. Critique your work, adjust little things like the game's speed or visuals, and don’t hesitate to draw inspiration from other successful games out there. Just remember, making it challenging yet enjoyable is key.

The prototype is meant to test your idea and see if it’s worth pursuing further. If it’s not working well, it might be time to rethink your approach or even start fresh. Also, I couldn't get much from your video about how the game mechanics play out. Getting feedback from others who can actually play it might help you refine your ideas better.

You mentioned wanting your game to be engaging and replayable, but that might be an ambitious goal for your current phase. Focus on learning and improving first. There are plenty of great games out there already; don’t feel pressured to compete with them without having a solid foundation.

After watching your video, I was a bit lost on what the actual game is about. It’s better to find out now that something isn't working rather than investing a year into it and realizing the same thing. Keep it simple and focused.
