Hey everyone, I just picked up a Ryzen 5800X3D and after running a stress test, I noticed it overheating significantly — hitting around 90°C! I carefully applied thermal paste in an X pattern and didn't hold back. My current cooler is the standard AMD type, which is slightly bigger than the one that comes with the Ryzen 3600. I've heard that this CPU can run hot, but I didn't expect it to be this extreme. Can anyone recommend a reliable air or water cooler that would work well with this processor?

I'm using the Hyper 212, and even under load like with Oblivion remaster, it only hits about 80°C. I use a peash-sized dot of thermal paste instead of the X pattern. Sometimes, too much paste can actually cause thermal issues.
The 5800X3D can be tricky with the stock cooler, especially if you have a small case or high ambient temps. But don't worry, even a decent 120mm tower cooler can do the job without breaking the bank. Just keep an eye on your case airflow!
The Phantom Spirit is a solid option at a great price, and it’s good enough for future builds too. You might also want to check out the Peerless Assassin or even the Assassin X. The Phantom Spirit has an extra heat pipe, so it gives you a lot of value for your money. I’m currently using a Peerless Assassin that has a digital display and better airflow than the standard version, and it works great for me!
Are you using one of those stock AMD coolers? Honestly, they just can't handle the heat of the Ryzen chips very well.
90°C is hot but still in a safe range, though it might limit your CPU’s boosting capabilities. For a cooler, I'm using the Noctua NH-U12S redux, which is the budget version of the NH-U12S, and it keeps everything cool without costing a fortune. The Peerless Assassin is also highly rated and budget-friendly.

For a budget-friendly choice, the Peerless Assassin really shines. Just make sure you choose one that suits your case size!
