How to Properly Connect a 5070 GPU Power Cable?

Hey everyone! I just got my hands on a 5070 Gigabyte Gaming OC, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to connect the power cables. The GPU comes with a 12VHPWR adapter that splits into two, but I've read some concerns about those bundled extensions. So, I decided to buy a different adapter that allows for direct connections to the PSU, featuring a 90-degree angle for better fitment in my small form factor case. You can check it out here: [Cooler Master Adapter](https://www.coolermaster.com/en-global/products/12vhpwr-adapter-cable/).

This adapter has 3 x 8-pin connections, but I believe the GPU only needs 2 x 8-pin based on the original splitter. My question is: should I connect 2 of the 8 pins, all 3, or does it even matter what I do as long as I include some? I have an 850W Gold PSU, and I can fit all three cables. Thanks for any advice!

I totally get where you’re coming from about the 12VHPWR connectors. There’s a lot of back and forth on whether they’re reliable, but for the 5070, you’re unlikely to run into burning issues since it doesn’t draw an enormous amount of power. Just double-check that your PSU is the right model for the adapter you bought because the pinout can vary. If you’re not 100% sure it’s compatible, don’t risk it—stick with the original cable provided!

Thanks for the heads up! It is a compatible Cooler Master, so I should be safe using this adapter!

You should connect all the 8 pins if you can! Just remember, the PSU doesn’t push power; the GPU pulls it as needed. Also, make sure you’ve got a Cooler Master PSU, right? That’ll help ensure compatibility with what you’re using.

Totally agree! I was initially concerned too, but as long as your PSU is compatible, you should be good to go.

Yes, it's a Cooler Master PSU. Thanks for confirming!
