I have an AMD Ryzen 7 7700x CPU and a B850 AORUS Elite WIFI7 motherboard. I understand that CPUs can be delicate and that you should drop them gently into the socket. However, the latch seems to be positioned too far up, and I'm hesitant to force it down. Could this indicate that my CPU and motherboard aren't compatible, or is there a proper technique to handle this?

Don't worry, your CPU and motherboard are compatible since they both use the AM5 socket. The main concern is ensuring the CPU pins stay safe. You need to be careful to avoid scratching the gold contacts on the bottom of the CPU. When you close the latch, it might require more force than you expect. After placing the CPU in and giving it a slight wiggle to ensure it's seated properly, gently push the latch down. If it resists about halfway, try pulling the latch slightly to the side while you keep pressing down to secure it fully.
Yep, you might have to apply more force than what feels comfortable. It's a bit surprising, but the latch is designed to compress the CPU into the socket. You might hear some crunching sounds, which some say is normal. Just trust the process and go for it!
If you're unsure, check out this video at around the 15:50 mark. It should give you a good visual guide on how to install your CPU properly. Trust me, your motherboard can handle it!

Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely check out the video.
