HP Laptop Won’t Turn On Even Though It Shows Fully Charged

I bought this HP laptop new about two years ago. The charging light comes on when I connect the USB charger and indicates that the battery is fully charged, but the laptop itself remains completely unresponsive. I've tried holding the power button, several reset combinations suggested by HP support, and BIOS-related key shortcuts, including Win+B, Win+V, Ctrl+Win+Shift+B, and Power+Esc. I can't easily open the laptop because the screw holes are extremely small, and I still have a warranty. Is there anything else I can safely try, or does it need to be sent in for repair? I have an important Zoom meeting today.

The likely next step is disconnecting the internal battery and draining any residual power, then reconnecting it and trying to boot again. Since you can’t comfortably open the laptop, attempting that yourself could damage the case or affect the warranty. It’s safer to have the manufacturer or an authorized repair center handle it.

That’s what I suspected, but I can’t open it safely, so I’ll probably have to send it in. Thanks for the advice.

For today’s meeting, use a phone, tablet, or another computer if you have access to one. There probably isn’t a reliable external fix left if the laptop shows no response after the reset combinations and the charging indicator is the only sign of life.

Since it uses USB charging, first verify the charger, cable, and outlet with another compatible device if possible. However, a charging light only confirms that some power is reaching the laptop; it doesn’t prove the battery, power circuitry, or motherboard is working. Because it’s still under warranty, avoid forcing the tiny screws or opening the case. You’ve already tried the main HP reset and recovery key combinations, so warranty service is the sensible option.

I’ve tried the recovery steps HP support recommended, including Win+B or Win+V with the power button, Ctrl+Win+Shift+B, and Power+Esc. I’ll likely use the warranty rather than risk making it worse.
