I accidentally deleted my OneDrive folder from my computer while trying to free up space. My Documents folder was synced with OneDrive, but most of its contents apparently had not finished syncing. The online account only contains about 4.8 GB, while roughly 120 GB of documents from three years of work disappeared locally. What should I do immediately, and is there any realistic way to recover the files?

First check both recycle bins: the computer's local Recycle Bin and the OneDrive web recycle bin are separate. Also look for OneDrive's file restore or version-history options in its settings. If you had a paid plan, deleted cloud files may remain available for a limited retention period, commonly around 30 days.
Stop using the computer and shut it down if the files were stored on an internal drive. Any continued use can overwrite the space where deleted data remains. If the files are extremely important, contact a professional data-recovery service before trying random recovery programs. Deleted files may still be recoverable because deletion often marks their storage space as available rather than immediately erasing every byte.
This is also a reminder that synchronization is not the same as a backup. Once the immediate recovery attempt is handled, use a separate backup system following the 3-2-1 approach: multiple copies, on different types of storage, with at least one copy kept offline or elsewhere.
The small amount of data online may mean your account ran out of storage, so the larger files existed only on the computer and were never uploaded. If the deletion bypassed the local Recycle Bin, recovery software might help, but install it from another drive or connect the affected drive to another computer so you do not overwrite the missing data.
