Intermittent Email Delivery to Wrong User – Need Help!

I'm having a frustrating issue with our email system after migrating to a new hosted Exchange platform. We've noticed a bizarre problem where some emails intended for a specific recipient actually end up in another user's mailbox. The baffling part is that the 'To' field displays the correct recipient's email address, yet it still goes to the wrong person. This doesn't happen all the time; most emails do deliver correctly, but a few seem to just cross wires. I can't identify any common factors as there's no consistent pattern for when this occurs, and there are no rules set up on Outlook that could cause this issue. Any insights or suggestions would be much appreciated!

Have you checked your DNS settings for stale MX records? I've run into that issue before. Also, take a look at the undeliverable report settings or any spam policies that might redirect emails incorrectly.

Running a message trace should be your first move. It can help you track where these misrouted emails are actually coming from or if there are any rules on the Exchange side that might be causing this issue.

Definitely check for any underlying rules. Sometimes there are hidden ones that can cause strange behaviors!

It could be worth checking if any old or corrupt SMTP aliases are still linked to the affected mailboxes. Those can sometimes mess things up without you even realizing it!

That makes sense! I’ll look into that possibility next.
