Intermittent Memory Errors on a New DDR5 System—RAM, BIOS, Board, or CPU IMC?

I recently built a new Windows 11 Pro PC with an Intel Core Ultra 7 270K Plus, Gigabyte Z890 AORUS ELITE WIFI7 ICE running BIOS F19, an MSI RTX 5070, a JUHOR 32GB (2×16GB) DDR5-6400 CL38 kit, a 4TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD, and an 850W ATX 3.1 power supply. I'm occasionally getting MEMORY_MANAGEMENT blue screens, and Windows Memory Diagnostic sometimes reports that hardware problems were detected. The results are inconsistent: the same RAM stick may pass one test and fail the next. I tested both sticks individually in the A2 and B2 slots, with XMP disabled, and also reduced the memory speed from 4800 MT/s to 4000 MT/s, but intermittent errors still occur. The SSD health check looks normal. I'm considering updating the motherboard from BIOS F19 to F20. Could this DDR5 kit simply be incompatible or defective, or should I be looking at the motherboard slots, the CPU's integrated memory controller, or the BIOS? What would be the best way to isolate the faulty component?

Before replacing major parts, check whether the errors occur in a repeatable pattern with one particular stick or slot. Keep the system at default settings, use the motherboard’s recommended slot, and avoid changing several settings at once. If one module fails across different slots while the other consistently passes, replace the kit; if failures follow a slot or affect every kit, pursue a motherboard or CPU warranty claim.

I haven’t obtained another DDR5 kit yet, but that will be my next test. XMP has stayed disabled, and I’ve already tried both modules individually at 4800 MT/s and 4000 MT/s.

Test each module separately in the recommended primary slot, then run a more thorough bootable memory test rather than relying only on Windows Memory Diagnostic. A memory test that passes once and fails later still indicates that something is unstable, but Windows Memory Diagnostic alone may not identify the cause reliably. Also make sure the CPU cooler is mounted evenly and inspect the socket for bent contacts, since socket pressure or damaged pins can affect memory channels.

If memory errors continue with XMP disabled and the RAM running at conservative JEDEC speeds, defective RAM is the first thing I’d suspect. Try a different known-good DDR5 kit if possible. If the replacement kit also reports errors, then investigate the motherboard and CPU memory controller. Updating to the latest stable BIOS is worthwhile before doing further testing.
