I've never used a 1440p monitor and currently have a 16GB Radeon 9060 XT with a 27-inch 1080p display. I'm considering upgrading, possibly to a 32-inch 1440p monitor, and I'm wondering whether 1440p with optimized, medium, or high settings would look better than 1080p at Ultra settings. I play a lot of demanding open-world games, including Cyberpunk 2077, so I also want to know whether this GPU can deliver a good 1440p experience without sacrificing too much performance.

The 9060 XT 16GB should handle 1440p in most games at medium-to-high settings, but newer AAA titles will vary. Cyberpunk and other demanding open-world games may require upscaling, reduced ray tracing, or a lower preset to stay near 60 FPS. Ultra settings are often a poor performance tradeoff because the visual difference from High is small in many games.
A 1440p monitor is still worthwhile even if you occasionally play at 1080p. You can use upscaling, lower the render resolution, or run 1080p with black bars when a game is too demanding. Just remember that 1080p scaled onto a 1440p panel can look softer than native 1080p, so 1440p Quality upscaling is usually the better option when available.
I’d go with a 27-inch 1440p monitor rather than 32 inches. It has noticeably better pixel density than 27-inch 1080p and is generally considered a great balance between sharpness, screen size, and performance. A 32-inch 1440p screen can still look good, but it is less crisp and takes up a lot of desk space.
32 inches isn’t automatically bad—some people prefer the larger, more immersive image and sit farther away. It mostly comes down to viewing distance and personal preference.
For most games, especially something like Cyberpunk, I’d choose 1440p with optimized or high settings over 1080p Ultra. The extra resolution improves sharpness, distant details, and image clarity more than the highest settings usually do. You don’t need to run everything at native resolution either—FSR 4 in Quality or Balanced mode can give you performance close to 1080p while still looking cleaner.
Just don’t expect native 1440p Ultra at very high frame rates. The 9060 XT is perfectly usable at 1440p if you’re comfortable adjusting settings and using upscaling.
If you’re already GPU-limited at 1080p with ray tracing, moving to 1440p will reduce frame rates further. Check benchmarks for the games you play and decide whether image sharpness matters more to you than maximum FPS.
