I'm in Chile, so shipping and VAT make PC parts more expensive, but local prices already reflect that. From a US-market perspective, is $160 for a 32GB kit made of two 16GB DDR4-2400 modules reasonable? Would this RAM work well with a Ryzen 7 5800X3D? I already bought a Ryzen 7 7800X3D and chose DDR5, but I'm wondering whether switching to the older AM4 platform would have been a smarter choice. I'm also planning to play Rust, which can be demanding on memory and prone to stuttering, so I'm considering whether 32GB would be worthwhile.

The memory type depends on the processor and motherboard. The Ryzen 7 7800X3D uses DDR5, while the Ryzen 7 5800X3D uses DDR4, so the two platforms aren’t interchangeable and DDR4 cannot be installed in a DDR5 motherboard. Since you already bought the 7800X3D, keeping the DDR5 platform makes more sense rather than changing to an older CPU and motherboard just to use this RAM.
That price is very high for DDR4-2400. You should generally be able to find 32GB of DDR4-3200, or sometimes DDR4-3600, for around the same price or less in the US. The faster kit would be a better choice for a 5800X3D, especially for gaming and avoiding memory-related performance limitations.
I haven’t found 32GB of DDR4-3200 at that price on the marketplaces I checked, but it’s still worth comparing more retailers and used listings before paying $160.
I mixed up the processors at first, but that clears it up. I’ll stick with the 7800X3D and look for an appropriately priced DDR5 kit instead.
