This is my first PC build, and I paired a Ryzen 5 7600 with an RX 9070 and a single 16GB stick of DDR5-5600 CL46 memory. I'm worried that the slow timings and single-channel setup might hold back the system, especially for gaming. Would I be better off adding another matching 16GB stick, or replacing it with a faster dual-channel kit?

If you’re buying new memory, a 2x16GB DDR5-6000 CL30 or CL32 kit would be a better long-term choice for this platform. However, replacing the current stick with 2x8GB just for tighter timings usually isn’t worthwhile, since 16GB can become restrictive in newer games and while multitasking. Either keep the current stick temporarily and add a matching one, or replace it with a 32GB faster kit.
You haven’t made a disastrous choice. The graphics card has its own VRAM, so the system RAM mainly affects the CPU side. The bigger issue is using one stick, since that runs in single-channel mode. Adding another matching 16GB stick would give you 32GB and dual-channel performance, assuming the motherboard supports the kit properly.
It’s not optimal, but it should work fine. Just remember that finding another matching CL46 module later may be inconvenient, and mixing memory can sometimes require manually adjusting settings. If you eventually upgrade the CPU to an X3D model, memory speed and latency generally matter a bit less because of the chip’s larger cache, but dual-channel memory is still important.
The CL46 latency is fairly loose, and 5600 MT/s isn’t ideal for a Ryzen 7000 system. Compared with a good 6000 CL30 dual-channel kit, you might lose a small amount of performance—roughly 1–8% depending on the game and resolution—but the difference is usually more noticeable at 1080p than 1440p. At 1440p, the RX 9070 will generally be the limiting component more often.
So gaming at 1440p should make the memory drawback less noticeable?

I was considering buying another identical 16GB stick to make a 2x16GB setup. Would that be better than replacing it with a faster 2x8GB kit?
