I'm planning a new PC build with a Ryzen 5 9600X and a Radeon 9060 XT 16GB. I'll be playing a mix of competitive games and more demanding modern titles. The build is currently around $1,500, but upgrading from 16GB to 32GB of DDR5 would add roughly $160 and bring the total close to $1,700. Is 16GB still practical for gaming, or is 32GB worth prioritizing now?

For a standard gaming setup, 16GB can still work, especially with competitive games, but it’s closer to the minimum these days. You may need to close background apps or lower settings in some newer titles. If possible, 32GB is the more comfortable choice.
I’d go with 32GB if you can fit it into the budget. Modern games, browsers, launchers, and background applications can use memory quickly, and there isn’t always a realistic guarantee that you’ll upgrade later. It’s better to install the capacity you want from the start.
If the extra $160 would seriously hurt the budget, 16GB is still usable for now. Most competitive games should be fine, and you can upgrade later if the motherboard has room. Just understand that 32GB is increasingly becoming the recommended amount for a new gaming build.
