I built my PC in 2021 with a Ryzen 7 5700X3D, RTX 5080, and 32GB of RAM. I recently noticed that the memory is running at only 2666MHz. How much could that be affecting gaming and overall performance? I'm also going to check whether XMP or EXPO is enabled correctly in the BIOS, since the kit may be capable of running faster.

2666MHz is slower than the usual recommendation for Ryzen 5000, but the 5700X3D’s large 3D V-Cache makes it less sensitive to memory speed than a standard Ryzen processor. You may lose some performance in certain games, but it probably isn’t a major problem if everything runs smoothly.
First, check the BIOS and make sure XMP or EXPO is enabled. Many DDR4 kits boot at a conservative base speed like 2666MHz until the memory profile is activated. If the kit supports a higher rated speed, enabling the profile may give you a useful performance bump without replacing anything.
There’s no need to rush into a platform upgrade just because the RAM is at 2666MHz. Moving to DDR5 would require a new motherboard and processor as well, so start by checking the memory’s rated specifications and enabling its BIOS profile. The current CPU should still be very capable for gaming.
You could gain more from faster memory, but the improvement is likely to be modest with an X3D chip. A complete upgrade to a newer CPU, motherboard, and DDR5 kit only makes sense if you’re actually seeing performance problems or want higher frame rates in CPU-limited games.

Exactly. The 5700X3D is still a strong gaming CPU, so replacing the whole system just for DDR5 would be overkill for most people.
