I currently have a 500W power supply, and my Ryzen 7 5700X system uses around 80–100W while gaming before adding the graphics card. I have 16GB of DDR4 memory and no RGB or other power-hungry extras. Would this PSU be sufficient for a Radeon 9070 GRE, which is rated around 220W, or would I need to replace it first? I'm also considering a 16GB 9060 XT for about $500, but the 9070 GRE is only roughly $30–50 more and offers much better performance, despite having less VRAM. I'd rather choose the faster card if my existing PSU can handle it safely.

It might run if the PSU is a high-quality model, but 500W leaves very little margin. Graphics cards can briefly draw more than their listed board power, and those spikes may cause crashes, black screens, restarts, or shutdowns. Check the exact PSU model and its reputation rather than relying only on the 80 Plus rating.
You could try the existing unit and upgrade if the computer becomes unstable, but that’s more of a gamble than a recommendation. A reliable, higher-wattage PSU gives you headroom for transient loads and future upgrades, so the 9070 GRE’s extra performance may justify budgeting for both the card and PSU.
