I currently have a 500W power supply and an R7 5700X system with 16GB of DDR4 memory. During gaming, the rest of the computer uses around 80–100W, not counting the graphics card. The RX 9070 GRE is rated around 220W, so my rough estimate is roughly 320W total, possibly 350W with some headroom. The system has no extra lighting or unusual accessories. Would this PSU be safe and stable, or would I need to replace it? I'm comparing it with a 16GB RX 9060 XT priced around $500, while the 9070 GRE costs only about $30–50 more and offers substantially better performance, despite having less VRAM.

The quality of the power supply matters more than the efficiency label alone. A good unit may work temporarily, but the GPU can briefly draw more than its rated power, pushing a 500W unit close to its limit. If you try it, watch for instability, but replacing the PSU is the better long-term plan.
It might run, but 500W is below the usual recommendation and leaves very little room for sudden power spikes. You could see crashes, black screens, restarts, or shutdowns, especially if the PSU is older or lower quality. A higher-wattage, reputable PSU would be the safer choice.
You could test the existing PSU, and if the computer shuts down or restarts under load, upgrade immediately. Just don’t choose a cheaper, lower-quality unit merely because it has a higher wattage; a reliable model with adequate capacity is much more important.

That makes sense—there’s more to it than simply adding the listed wattages. I’ll budget for a new PSU instead of relying on the 500W unit.
