Is a 650W PSU Enough for an RTX 5070 and Ryzen 9 5950X?

I'm looking for some advice on my build which includes an RTX 5070 and a Ryzen 9 5950X, powered by a 650W PSU. The Ryzen 9 has a TDP of 105W, so theoretically it should be fine, but I've heard mixed opinions about this setup working reliably. What are the concerns here? Also, if I do need to switch out the PSU, can anyone suggest a reliable option within the 5000 series that matches the 105W TDP without being a risky choice? Just for reference, I currently have a 5600GT in my setup.

Your 650W PSU should be fine if it's a decent quality one, but you might want to avoid enabling Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO) with your 5950X. On stock settings, the 5950X pulls around 130-140W, and under PBO, it could spike to 230W depending on cooling and limits. That could push your PSU pretty hard along with the GPU and other components. Just curious, why the 5950X instead of a 5700X or 5800X? Do you have workloads that truly need all those cores?

Yeah, as long as your PSU is high quality, it should be okay. The brand matters a lot—just because it says 650W doesn’t mean all are equal. What brand are you using?

It's a Corsair CX.
