I currently have a Ryzen 5 3600XT, 16GB of RAM, an ASRock A520M-HDV motherboard, and an RTX 3060 12GB. I use the PC for work and gaming, mainly titles such as PUBG, CS2, and Age of Empires. At 1080p, I'm seeing bottlenecks and noticeable frame-rate drops in open-world games and busy online matches, even with low settings. I was considering moving to a B550 motherboard while keeping the RTX 3060, but I'm unsure whether the CPU, GPU, RAM, or something else is causing the problem. Would a CPU upgrade be worthwhile, and should I replace the motherboard too?

The Ryzen 5 3600XT and RTX 3060 are reasonably balanced, so replacing the motherboard is unlikely to solve the issue. Your 16GB of RAM could contribute to stuttering in newer or especially busy games, so moving to 32GB of compatible dual-channel memory may help. It would also be worth checking temperatures, background processes, storage health, and drivers before making a major upgrade. A clean Windows installation could help if the same installation has been carried over for a long time.
Check what is actually limiting performance before buying parts. Use a monitoring tool such as MSI Afterburner with its on-screen display enabled and watch GPU usage, CPU usage per core, temperatures, RAM usage, and frame times while playing. If the GPU is close to 95–100% usage, the graphics card is usually the limit. If one or two CPU cores are maxed out while GPU usage is much lower, the processor is more likely holding you back. A B550 board by itself will not improve gaming performance in a meaningful way.
A clean installation has been on my to-do list for a while, since I’ve been using the same Windows setup for a long time. I’ll try that and monitor the system before replacing anything.
