Is a Ryzen 9 7900X3D and RTX 3090 PC still worth $1,650 in 2026?

I've wanted a gaming PC for a long time and recently found what seems like a high-end system for $1,650. The RTX 3090 is probably the oldest or weakest major component, while the rest of the build includes a Ryzen 9 7900X3D, ASUS ROG Strix X670E motherboard, 32GB of DDR5-6000 memory, a 360mm Corsair liquid cooler, Samsung 980 and 970 EVO Plus SSDs, a 1600W EVGA power supply, and a large ASUS TUF case. I currently play games on a PS5 Pro and would like to know whether this PC would provide a noticeable improvement, especially for 1440p and 4K gaming. I'm new to PC gaming, so I'd appreciate opinions on both the performance and whether the price is reasonable.

The 7900X3D is a good gaming CPU, but it wasn’t the best value of its generation because its cache is split between two core groups. A 7800X3D was often more consistent for gaming. That said, it’s still more than fast enough to pair with a 3090, so the CPU shouldn’t hold you back in normal gaming.

The main weaknesses of the deal are the relatively small storage capacity and the age of the GPU, not the general performance. A 1TB drive fills quickly with modern games, and the 1600W power supply is far more capacity than this build needs. If the motherboard, memory, cooling system, and graphics card are working properly, $1,650 for the complete system is still a solid deal.

At $1,650, the price sounds reasonable if everything is in good condition and the system is fully tested. The 24GB of VRAM is still useful, and the 3090 remains perfectly capable for modern games. Just remember that it’s an older, power-hungry card, so check temperatures, fan noise, and whether the power supply is healthy before buying.

The PC should be noticeably faster than a PS5 Pro overall. An RTX 3090 is still a strong 1440p card and can handle plenty of 4K gaming, although the exact frame rate depends on the title, settings, ray tracing, and upscaling. You’ll also have much more control over graphics settings and frame rates than you do on a console.

For story-focused games, 4K at 60 FPS is realistic in many cases, especially with sensible settings or upscaling. Don’t expect every demanding new game to run at native 4K with maximum ray tracing, though. At 1440p, you should have a much easier time reaching high and smooth frame rates than on a console.
