I'm putting together a PC with a Ryzen 5 5500, B550M motherboard, and 16GB of DDR4 memory. I've found a GTX 1080 Ti for about $130 and want to know whether it can still deliver smooth 1080p performance in esports games, racing games, and open-world titles. I currently play games such as Fortnite, GTA V, Forza Horizon 5, Counter-Strike 2, and Red Dead Redemption 2. I may use it temporarily while saving for a stronger GPU later, but I'm concerned about its age, power consumption, missing ray-tracing features, and future driver support.

If you can stretch the budget, look for a used RTX 3060, RTX 2070 Super, or RX 6600 XT instead. They offer similar overall performance while providing newer architectural features and better support going forward. Also, if the price difference is small, consider getting a Ryzen 5 5600 rather than the 5500, since it is a stronger match for a gaming build.
At $130, it can still be a good temporary 1080p card, especially for esports, racing games, and older AAA titles. The 11GB of VRAM is helpful, and it should handle your current games reasonably well. Just remember that it is an older, power-hungry card, so check its condition and make sure your power supply is adequate. Undervolting could help with heat and power draw.
For the games you listed, the 1080 Ti should still be perfectly usable at 1080p. It makes more sense as a stopgap card while you save for an upgrade than as a purchase you plan to keep for several more years. Some newer games may have poor performance or fail to run properly because of missing hardware features, so don’t expect it to handle every upcoming release.
I’d be hesitant to buy one as a long-term main GPU. The 1080 Ti lacks ray tracing, DLSS, mesh-shader support, and newer driver support, which may increasingly matter in modern games. A used RTX 2060 Super, RTX 3060, RX 6600 XT, RX 7600, or RX 5700 XT would give you newer features and better future compatibility, even if some have less VRAM.
That’s what I was thinking. I’d mainly use it for Fortnite, GTA V, Forza Horizon 5, CS2, and RDR2, then upgrade when I have more money for newer games.
