Is a Used RTX 3080 10GB Worth $390 for 1440p Gaming and Video Editing?

I'm considering an RTX 3080 10GB priced around $350–$390 in the United States. I'd pair it with a Ryzen 5 5500 for now, although I plan to upgrade the CPU later. My main uses would be streaming, video editing, and playing demanding games at 1440p on high settings. Is the RTX 3080 still a good choice at this price, or are there better options—preferably from NVIDIA—around the same budget? I'm also concerned about the card's 10GB of VRAM and the risks of buying a used, potentially out-of-warranty GPU.

The RTX 3080 still has strong traditional gaming performance, but $390 is high for a used 10GB card with no warranty. I’d be more comfortable around $300–$350. The 10GB of VRAM is usually fine at 1440p with sensible settings, though newer games may require lowering textures or using upscaling. The 3080 is still a capable card for gaming and can work well for video editing, but used models carry some risk because many are out of warranty and have seen several years of use. I’d negotiate toward $300–$350 rather than paying the top end of the current asking range. Also make sure your power supply is a quality unit; 750W can be sufficient, but the card’s transient power spikes make PSU quality important.

I’d also consider a newer card with 16GB of VRAM if you can find one near your budget. It may be slightly slower in some games, but the extra memory gives you more room for newer titles and editing workloads. AMD options may offer better memory capacity or value, although NVIDIA could be the safer choice if your editing software and past driver experience favor it.
MellowPine47: I’m hesitant about switching to AMD because of video-editing compatibility and previous driver experiences, so I’d prefer to stay with NVIDIA if there’s a reasonable option.

For 1440p, the 3080 has enough raw performance, but the 10GB VRAM can become a limitation in some newer AAA games at high or maximum settings. I use mine at 1440p with lower settings and DLSS, and it still performs well. Since similar cards can sometimes be found closer to $280–$350, I wouldn’t pay $390 unless the condition and seller warranty were especially good.
MellowPine47: Local listings aren’t really an option for me because I live in a remote area. I’ve already checked benchmarks with a similar setup, so I’m mainly trying to decide whether $390 is reasonable or whether another NVIDIA card would make more sense.

MellowPine47: I was under the impression that a good 750W power supply would be enough. The 4070 options also tend to go above my budget, so I’d only consider one if the 3080’s power requirements or limitations make it a much worse choice.
