Is AI-901 a worthwhile starting point for someone new to AI?

I've worked in infrastructure for around 13 years, mostly with Microsoft technologies, but I have essentially no experience with how AI works behind the scenes. Would AI-901 be a good way to learn the fundamentals? Does the exam teach anything useful for day-to-day infrastructure work or improving job opportunities, and how difficult is it?

It’s a fairly basic certification, but it’s a nice introduction to AI concepts and Azure’s AI services. If you study consistently, you could probably prepare in about a week. It’s more focused on understanding the concepts and services than on deep development work.

Is the exam difficult, and do you need to use Azure directly during it, or is it mainly testing general AI knowledge?

It’s a good starting point if you’re completely new to AI. You’ll get a foundation in common AI concepts and an overview of Azure’s AI offerings without going deeply into programming. With your infrastructure background, it could fill an important knowledge gap, but the certification by itself probably won’t make a major difference to your job prospects.

Thanks, that helps. I’m planning to take it sometime this year as a way to build a solid foundation.
