Is Amazon a Good Place to Buy PC Parts?

I'm planning to build a PC soon and already have a general parts list put together. The total comes to about $3,000 USD including peripherals if I buy everything through Amazon. I like the convenience of keeping the whole build in one cart, but I'm wondering whether I could save money or avoid problems by buying from other retailers such as Newegg, Micro Center, or B&H. Is Amazon reliable for PC components, and are there any things I should watch out for?

Amazon can be a good option when thereโs a sale, but it isnโt always the cheapest. Track prices with a site such as CamelCamelCamel, and compare against other major retailers before checking out. Cases, fans, storage, and accessories are usually low-risk purchases there. For the CPU, GPU, RAM, and power supply, Iโd be much stricter about buying only from a manufacturer or highly reputable seller. A local computer store can also be worth checking if it offers bundle discounts or convenient returns.

The convenience is nice, and returns are usually straightforward, but expensive parts deserve extra caution. Record yourself opening packages, especially for a graphics card, processor, power supply, or motherboard, and inspect everything for signs of tampering or prior use. Defective or swapped items can happen with any retailer, so make sure you have enough time for a replacement before planning your build.
UrbanKite93: Even if Amazon is listed as the seller and shipper, Iโd still document the unboxing and be prepared to return anything that looks wrong.

Amazon is generally fine, but always check who is actually selling the item. Not every listing is sold by Amazon, and some third-party sellers can be questionable. Use a price-comparison tool like PCPartPicker to see whether another major retailer has a better deal. If you buy through Amazon, Iโd stick with products sold and shipped by Amazon or sold by the manufacturer and fulfilled by Amazon.
QuietPanda18: Thatโs the best approach. Compare the total prices first, then choose a reputable seller with a solid return policy.

AmberWagon64: Iโve had both good and bad experiences with different retailers. The key is buying from a legitimate seller and making sure the return policy is clear, since occasional defective parts are unavoidable.
