Is Amazon a Good Place to Buy PC Parts?

I'm planning to build a PC soon and already have a general parts list. The total comes to roughly $3,000 USD on Amazon, including peripherals. I like the convenience of putting everything in one cart, but I'm wondering whether I could save money or have a better buying experience by using retailers such as Newegg, Micro Center, or other major stores. Is Amazon a reliable choice for PC components, and what should I watch out for?

There are bad-part and shipping issues at every retailer, so the return policy matters as much as the price. Iโve had defective or mishandled parts from multiple stores, but returns worked when the seller was reputable. Buying everything in one cart is fineโjust inspect the packages, test each component promptly, and donโt hesitate to send back anything suspicious.

Be extra careful with the CPU, GPU, RAM, motherboard, and power supply. Third-party marketplace listings can sometimes be counterfeit, used, damaged, or completely different from what was advertised. Even when Amazon is fulfilling the order, record the unboxing and test everything quickly so you can return defective or incorrect parts without delay.

Amazon is generally fine, especially for the convenience, but always check the actual seller. Use a price-comparison tool such as PCPartPicker to see whether another major retailer has a significantly lower price. For expensive parts, Iโd prefer items sold directly by Amazon or by the manufacturer, rather than an unknown third-party seller.
QuietHarbor6: Thatโs the approach I use tooโcompare the total prices first, then choose the retailer with the best return policy and seller reputation.

Amazon can be a good option when thereโs a sale, but it isnโt always the cheapest. A price-history tracker can show whether the current price is actually a discount, and comparing against several established retailers is worthwhile. For cases, fans, and accessories, Amazon is usually convenient; for major components, Iโd prioritize a reputable seller and an easy replacement policy.

SilverKite53: Iโd document the unboxing even when it says sold and shipped by Amazon. Returns are usually straightforward, but a bad part can still delay the whole build.
