I'm considering pairing an Intel Core i5-14400F with an H610 motherboard. I'm not trying to build an extremely powerful system—just something reliable for basic gaming and running modern games smoothly. Would H610 be sufficient, or should I choose a B760 board instead?

The H610 chipset can work with the i5-14400F, but the exact motherboard model matters a lot. Check that it supports 14th-generation CPUs, either out of the box or after a BIOS update, and make sure its VRMs and cooling are adequate. Some entry-level H610 boards are fine, while others may run hot or limit the processor under sustained load.
The 14400F is more of a mainstream processor than an ultra-low-end chip, so I wouldn’t pair it with the cheapest H610 board without checking reviews. A stronger H610 model can handle it, but a basic Asus Prime H610M-K-type board may work while still being a poor choice for long gaming sessions.
For a new build, B760 is usually the safer choice if the price difference is reasonable. It generally offers better power delivery, more storage and expansion options, and broader 14th-generation support. H610 is acceptable if you pick a well-reviewed model and only need a basic gaming system.
So the chipset name alone isn’t enough—I should check the specific board’s CPU support, BIOS version, and VRM quality before buying.
