I built this PC in 2021 and have only replaced the power supply recently. The system currently has a Ryzen 9 5900X, Arctic Liquid Freezer II 360, Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master, 32GB of DDR4-3600 memory, a 2TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD, an MSI RTX 3080 Ti, a Phanteks P500A case, and a Corsair RM1000x 1000W power supply. I am adding an LG UltraGear OLED 45GX950A-B with a 5120×2160 resolution and would like to play demanding games at high or ultra settings. Would an RTX 5080, specifically the ROG Astral model, be a sensible upgrade with the rest of this system, or would another graphics card or broader platform upgrade make more sense?

The 5900X and the rest of the system are still capable, especially at 5120×2160 where the graphics card will usually be the limiting factor. I would try the 3080 Ti with the new display first, then upgrade only if your actual games and settings show that you need more performance.
Before buying, compare your 3080 Ti with a 4080 Super, 5080, and current competing cards using benchmarks for the games you actually play. A sensibly priced used 4080 Super or a less expensive current-generation card could offer better value. Your cooler, case, storage, and 1000W power supply can likely be reused, so there is no need to replace the whole platform unless you also want a CPU upgrade.
